Elsa and the Night
Active as a director, illustrator and writer. I have an MA inanimtaion from Royal College of Art in London, where Igraduated in 2009. I've directed a number of short films and commercials. I've written and illustrated five picture books for kids, andElsa and the Night started as a picture book. Now that we're turning it into an animated short we want to take care to keep the emotionel resonance of the story. We also feel that with the film we'll be able to explore parts of the narrative in greater depth and detail.
For the film script we've worked on making the bond between Elsa and her beloved elephant companion - Olaf - stronger and more clearly stated. We'll also be able to show aspects of their story that were merely hinted at in the book - such as the various circus tricks they performed together. We also see an opportunity to bring the city to life - with all of its noisy, sleep deprived inhabitants. Street scenes showing the state of the city act as a comical relief and can be rendered more vividly as a backdrop for the story. Finally - Night itself will become even more of a presence and personality as it glides fluidly across the screen - changing everything within its borders to nighttime and growing steadily larger. We're looking to make a film that is thoughtful and layered, as well as visually striking. The kind of film that can be viewed over and over again.Filmography:
Elsa is afraid to sleep, actually she has not slept a wink for thirty years. Early one morning when she’s sitting at the kitchen table, she finds an unwelcome guest underneath her sofa.
The creature turns out to be none other than the Night itself. Elsa tells it of her life, and her best friend – an elephant named Ola as the Night accompanies her on a moving journey.
